About

At Culture Rich, we celebrate the resilience of South African women, weaving their stories into a vibrant, sustainable future. We launched in August 2025 during Women’s Month. Our goal is to empower women to overcome gender-based violence (GBV). We help them build thriving lives through no- or low-capital entrepreneurship. This is rooted in our cultural heritage and the ethos of People, Planet, Profit.

Our Mission

We’re here for you—single mothers, grandmothers, young dreamers—helping you turn struggles into successes while caring for our planet. By crafting eco-friendly products and sharing green skills, we foster income, healing, and environmental stewardship.

People | Planet | Profit

How it works:

Our integrated approach ensures that every single action creates triple-bottom-line impact.

  • People: We prioritize healing and empowerment. Through the Hustle Tribe, we equip GBV survivors with no-capital, immediately monetizable skills, fostering financial autonomy and personal strength.
  • Planet: We practice sustainable entrepreneurship. All our products—like the Trauma Teddies and upcycled goods—are crafted using donated or waste materials, diverting textiles from landfills and promoting green living.
  • Profit: We ensure sustainable growth. All income generated is reinvested to sustain the community, pay our women fair wages, fund training workshops, and stock the Safe Start Kits. This creates a fully closed-loop economy of support.

The Hustle Tribe Initiative

We’ve always been stronger together. Whether around the fire, in the kitchen, at church, or gathered under a tree with our little ones playing at our feet—women have always found ways to lift each other up. That’s the spirit behind this new initiative: helping each other start small businesses and build something that lasts.

Too many of us have ideas, skills, and dreams but not enough support or opportunity. And honestly, the system isn’t always set up in our favor. But instead of waiting for someone to rescue us, we’ve chosen to be the answer—for ourselves, and for each other.

We started this initiative because we believe in the power of community. When one woman rises, she reaches back and pulls others up with her. When she earns an income, children eat better, homes are safer, girls stay in school, and dignity is restored. It’s not just about money—it’s about freedom, confidence, and having a voice.

The Trauma Teddy Initiative

The Trauma Teddy is the heart of Culture Rich’s People | Planet | Profit mission. It is a specially hand-stitched comfort object provided to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) during their crucial first stages of healing.

More than just a soft toy, the Trauma Teddy is a therapeutic grounding tool. For the survivor receiving it, the familiar, tactile comfort reduces anxiety and helps regulate emotional distress.

For the woman who creates it, the Teddy is a zero-capital catalyst for entrepreneurship. Made from upcycled fabrics and donated textiles, every stitch transforms waste into worth, providing the maker with immediate, independent income. When you support the Trauma Teddy, you are investing in a cycle of healing: providing emotional comfort to one survivor while funding the financial freedom of another.

The Safe Start Initiative

The Safe Start Initiative delivers immediate, life-stabilizing resources to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) during their most critical first steps toward independence.

These kits are intentionally designed to restore dignity and provide essential supplies (such as basic toiletries, clothing, and the Trauma Teddy) needed during the initial 72 hours after leaving an abusive situation.

This initiative also strengthens the Profit pillar of Culture Rich. By sourcing and stocking the Safe Start Kits with goods and services created by women within the Hustle Tribe, we ensure that demand for their micro-enterprises is constant and guaranteed. In this way, the support given to one survivor immediately translates into income and economic stability for another.

Discover a world of possibilities with me

I’m Margaret, the heart behind Culture Rich. Driven by my community’s grit—long walks for water, handmade crafts—I created this platform to tackle GBV and economic barriers. Inspired by sustainable practices, I founded The Hustle Tribe, Trauma Teddies for Africa, and Safe Start Kits. We have made 15 crocheted teddies already. This shows that upcycled materials and local skills can change lives. At the same time, we leave a lighter footprint.
